AMM 32: Don't let the supply chain break, promote mutually beneficial trade relations
 

​The conference was co-chaired by New Zealand Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta and New Zealand Minister of Trade and Export Growth Damien O'Connor, with the participation of the Minister, representing 21 member economies.

 

Attending the Conference as guests were also representatives of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

At the meeting on November 9 with the theme "Technical cooperation as a tool to accelerate economic recovery", the Foreign Ministers discussed measures to promote cooperation towards an Asia-Pacific. Binh Duong is self-sufficient and prosperous; support members with a sustainable and inclusive recovery; and take advantage of innovation and digital transformation for economic recovery.

Accordingly, the ministers agreed to strengthen measures to respond to the pandemic to ensure equal access to vaccines, treatment measures, research cooperation, expansion of vaccine production and supply, and investment. for the health system; the dynamic and connected Asia-Pacific region through efforts to ensure a free, open, and non-discriminatory trade and investment environment; prevent supply chain disruption, promote mutually beneficial trade relations; seize opportunities from the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and digital transformation.

In addition, the Ministers agreed that economic, trade and social policies must provide equal opportunities, ensure jobs for all people, promote the potential of disadvantaged groups such as women, people in remote areas. At the same time, strengthen cooperation to respond to climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, sustainably manage natural resources, and ensure food and water security.

Speaking at the conference, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed APEC's efforts in maintaining the momentum of regional cooperation, repelling the Covid-19 pandemic and promoting economic recovery. The Minister affirmed that the Putrayaja Vision 2040 is a strong testament to the determination and commitment of APEC members to overcome difficulties and bring the economy back to the trajectory of strong and sustainable growth for prosperity. people and future generations.

Regarding priority cooperation orientations, Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized that APEC needs to promote its leading role in promoting free trade: limiting trade barriers and discriminatory measures, especially against with essential items; expanding the network of free trade agreements; promote an open, transparent, inclusive and rules-based multilateral trading system and reform the WTO. Improve resilience and resilience of supply chains: accelerate the implementation of agreed cooperation programs on connectivity, digital economy, and small and medium-sized enterprises to facilitate the circulation of people and goods, promote digital transformation and enhance the resilience of enterprises.

At the same time, contributing to the successful control of the Covid pandemic, supporting members to access vaccines in a timely manner, promoting cooperation in technology transfer, research and vaccine production; improve the capacity of the community health system and its ability to respond to infectious diseases and medical emergencies in the future; Promoting economic recovery in parallel with strengthening global resilience, sustainability and inclusiveness: promoting cooperation on trade facilitation of environmental goods and services, circular economy, energy security - water resources - food, climate change and disaster risk management; enhance women's economic empowerment and support disadvantaged groups.

Previously, on November 8, the APEC Trade Ministers discussed the topic "Trade is the driving force for accelerating economic recovery" with three main contents: experience in domestic economic recovery; trade and investment cooperation efforts for the recovery of the region; APEC's contribution to the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference.

At the end of the Conference, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs approved the Joint Statement of the Conference and 2 appendices including: Summary report on mid-term assessment of the roadmap for service competition in APEC and the Reference List of environmental services APEC.
